Q: What is the homepage?
A: What is the first site that you see when you open up your Internet browser? That first site you see is called the "Home Page" (also sometimes called the "Start Page"), because it is the first thing you see every time you start your browser. By default, it could be set to the company you downloaded the browser from. More generally, depending on which browser you are using, it may just be set to Netscape's or Microsoft's main home page. If you don't like these pages, don't worry, it's quite simple to set it to any page you wish.

In Internet Explorer
Click on the menu command "Tools," then chose the submenu "Internet Options." A new window will appear, and the first thing you should see is , "Home Page." This will display the URL for whatever your current start page is. If you want to change it, just replace that URL with the URL for the start page you want. When you're done, click "OK" at the bottom of the window.
In Netscape
From the menu, click "Edit" and choose the submenu "Preferences." In the window that will popup, the second item you should see is "Home Page." Here you do the same thing you did in Internet Explorer and simply enter in the URL of the site you want to use as your Home Page.
Now you're all set! If you get tired of the one you just set, you can change it to something new whenever you want. Beware when you surf the web for sites that will try to force you into making their site your Home Page. Most likely, you don't want this site as your Home Page, so be sure to click "cancel" if you ever see a request to change your Home Page. If your Home Page does get set to something you don't like, just remember what you just learned! And for a quick short cut back to your Home Page, all you need to do is click on the "Home" icon at the top of your browser.
